“Do you feel so heavy managing house alone here?”
“Are you sure you managing alone there?”
Those are typical questions I get recently after I’m moving in Holland. Holland and Indonesia have two different situations on how managing the house.
In Indonesia, it is normal for people to have maid to help cleaning the house.
In here, in Holland, it is normal to do household chores alone without maid.
When I was in Indonesia, I got helped from a maid who came at 10am until 2pm only for cleaning the floor and ironing the clothes, the rest I did myself, and I had a driver. People in Holland think that is a luxury… Yes it is but at the end of the day, I always feel so tired… I mean.. physically so tired.
Since 2 months in Holland, I do everything by myself from cooking, ironing, cleaning, everything… from morning until my husband is coming back home (Thank God he is soooo helpful). Plus… our house is 2 storey house with 33 stairs in total !! I don’t feel so tired like I was in Indonesia. Physically I still have energy at the end of the day and I feel healthier ! Amazingggggg !!
If I had 2 storey building house in Indonesia and I had to do household chores by myself.. I would be so exhausted ! Arghhh… I won’t be cheerful like today.
I keep wondering why… Why that I can do household chores alone but I don’t feel so tired like in Indonesia…
I had discussion with my husband about this.
We come up in conclusion, a big one, that weather really plays a major role in this situation.
Average temperatures in Indonesia is 34C until 37C… everyday ! Also don’t forget about the humidity… Air con doesn’t help much.
This condition effects the dust at home and the sweat in my armpit ! Simple but I have to clean my house even 2x a day… The next morning the dust will be thicker again… The smell, the humidity, the air, the sunshine (no…it’s not sunshine, it’s sun-fire! Too hot !) make me so hard and so lazy to move my body…even just to go 100 metres to the nearest supermarket… Really.. I need more than super motivation sentences.
Having a maid doesn’t really help the laziness… indeed the house is clean.
In Holland, the air is dry, the temperature isn’t so high, now is about 8C – 12C… Basically the dust isn’t as much as in Indonesia. The air smell so fresh… like in the fridge ! I mean it. I feel fresher and healthier.. I feel that my body is lighter. This, this, this special condition that’s so different than my home country, gives a mood booster everyday ! Even the tea and the coffee taste more tasty and special… off course because it’s colder here than in tropical country !
Other than that…
Although I have maid in Indonesia, in Holland… I get helped as well ! Thanks to technology ! I can drink from the tab and I have a dishwasher !!
2 small things that really save my time and energy !! Wonderful !!
I don’t have to be afraid of bacteria that will stay in my son’s plates, glasses etc.
I don’t have to cook water everyday.
I don’t have to buy a galon drinking water like in Indonesia.
I don’t have to wash all the plates, bowls, pan, etc !
It saves my mood !! After cooking, I just put everything in the dishwasher. Perfect !!
So, for all question about “How you feel managing house by yourself in Holland?”
I answer “Happily managable!”
